No matter what you are looking for, there are probably thousands of consumer buyer guides. Up until recently, this didn't present much of a problem. Having your own choice of consumer reports was actually a good thing. You could look through all of them, see what they focused on, and see which one was right for you. Being able to look at a few different expert opinions never hurt anyone, and it would actually make you a more involved and informed consumer.

All of that has changed, however. You see, the companies have gotten wise to the fact that they can write their own consumer reviews. Although they are apt to disguise these as valid consumer reports about the product, they are anything but. Instead, they are commercial endorsements that pretend to be objective, but really are only there to try to make you buy something. It is easy to fall for this kind of consumer review – millions of Americans do every year. It is not as difficult as you would think, however, to figure out where to get the best objective and balanced information.

There are a few standbys that are good for everything. The best consumer review source of all is consumer reports. Whether you are looking into consumer reports dishwashers, refrigerators, or cars, you can find some excellent, objective information there. Basically, they break down the consumer reviews into several categories. They will tell you which models perform better, last longer, cost less, and are the best overall deals. Rather than simply endorsing one product over another, these consumer reviews tell you all of the relevant information and let you make the right choice. The conclusion that one person draws from this style of consumer review is not necessarily the conclusion that another person will draw. One product is not better than another for all consumers.

Of course, some consumer reviews are excellent sources for a specific type of product. For example, car and driver reviews are a great way of determining what car might be the right buy for you. Unfortunately, they rarely come out with consumer reviews that compare all the different cars side-by-side, but they frequently do have in-depth articles that will look at a certain model and tell you all of its advantages and disadvantages. Similarly, there are computer magazines with excellent computer reviews. Basically, for every class of consumer product, you can bet there is a good source of consumer reviews somewhere. You just have to go and find it.
